A prose poem, ‘Sol y Sombra’ ( Sun and Shade) is a title often given to the seating in a bullring. Lorca uses this very Spanish pastime to introduce his own themes of life and death; duende; humour and drama and Christian and pagan rites.
Lorca resurrected Spanish poetry by using folklore, music and traditional Spanish arts with a modernist’s eye.
