La Mala Hora. Gabriel Garcia Marquez.
Madrid. 1962.
First edition, first impression.
Inscribed.
Marquez’s third book published in Madrid and one which Marquez disowned due to the Madrid editor ‘translating’ Columbian vernacular into Castilian Spanish.
The inscription by Marquez indicates the disturbing nature of the book and perhaps hints as well at his anger at the editor of this edition. Under the watchful eye of Marquez the book was republished in 1966.
La Mala Hora( In Evil Hour) is a parable of a dictatorship; an account of life after authoritarian rulers have consolidated power and how life in a small Columbian town unravels under the false claim of peace by those in power.
